Privacy policy

What we collect

• Account details: name, email, password (stored only as a secure hash), student/alumni status, department, batch, student ID and registration number, graduation year, and a mobile number. The student ID, registration number and mobile number are visible only to the SMUNITE team unless you choose to show your number on your profile.
• Verification: the ID document you upload (for example your student ID card or certificate), or the names of verified members who vouch for you. Documents are seen only by SMUNITE admins and the verifier for your department. It is stored privately, is visible only to SMUNITE administrators, is used only to verify your membership, and is deleted as soon as the review is finished.
• Profile information you choose to add: photo, headline, bio, work history, skills, links, location and phone number.
• Content you create: posts, comments, messages, listings, events and RSVPs.
• Technical data: IP address for security (rate limiting and abuse prevention) and a session cookie that keeps you signed in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Who can see what

• Member profiles and the member directory are visible only to signed-in, verified members — never to the public or search engines.
• You choose whether your profile is visible to all members or only your connections, and who can see your email and phone number.
• Private messages are visible only to you and the other person. Moderators may review a specific message if it is reported.
• Jobs, opportunities, events and business listings are public so they can be shared, but contact and application details are shown only to members.

Emails

We send account emails (verification, password reset) and notification emails you can turn off in Settings. We never sell or share your email address.

Your choices

You can edit your profile and privacy settings at any time and delete your account from Settings. Deleting your account removes your profile, connections and personal details; posts and messages you sent remain but are shown as from a "Deleted member".
